01) Hails! The crypt of everything what is vile and can spread monstrosity of this unholy plague is open since 2009 when Sepulcral was born. How are things there just after releasing your full lenght debut?
Infernal Hails! Things are going well there! After the release of our first album we played at Metal Magic Festival in Denmark. It was an unforgettable experience and we received some good responses. People seems to like "Anthropophagy Of Doom" and we are very satisfied about it!
02) Since in the begining of the interview it is the utmost to get as much information about the horde as possible. So can you tell me what does Sepulcral stands for, what are the goals and how is reflecting your side of souls and egos? Is it just something that has been called to life to make some kind of asylum from reality for you?
(E):The band was born in 2009 by me and L , in order to satisfy our desires to create something more obscure and more aggressive instead of our last musical experiences.especially Sepulcral is the best what the band wants to express something macabre and frightening at the same time, inspired by the plot of horror films with its roots in death metal clearly of the late 80's early 90'ies.
(L): All of my negativity can be heard in Sepulcral's music. For me Sepulcral is like a screaming creature of pain and anguish. Since we started we wanted to express all our negative feelings through our music. I hate reality, I always try to escape from it.
03) No doubt that Sepulcral is one big tribiute to old school days when the possession and real attitiude was the main important things to gain respect from maniacs. How do you feel seeing nowadays direction where metal music is heading to?
Today, the scene is very successful and there are many very good bands, and surely this is a good thing. Although I must say that the trend of the moment is to play this kind of music, in fact there is perhaps a revival of death metal .
04) From other hand the underground is full of worthy bands that doesn't give a fuck about the trends in the scene and they do what they want. I mean there is a lot of of them which do hail the tradition and real metal and they are not trying to be modern or innovative because it is trendy or fuck knows what else. What do you think about it? Is it somewhere this invisible barrier that some do not understand that shouldn't be crossed? Or is it just only for the stupid fame and cash?
I think that if you have the right mindset for underground and you feel the music in your blood then you can always create good stuff. We try to play more personal as possible because we don't want be named as a clone of Autopsy, Asphyx etc. Many bands should try to sound more personal instead by stoling riffs from their idols.
Well, now are several years that i follow the underground and I've always been a fan of demos, 7'ep and lp.
and I've been interested to discover new underground bands that move in this direction, which go back to the old sounds and ideologies of historical groups. certainly there are also groups who follow the fashion and play this kind of music for pure trend, but who knows, sepulcral do what we like and we have always lived for this kind of music. I think the important thing is the attitude and the desire to believe and live in what gets.
05) What in your opinion is so unique in the style you preform: Unholy Doom/Death Metal? Is it only about paying tribiute and honor to the ones who ispired you though all these years?
(E)Surely the most important thing, in addition to the musical side, which of course we try to play a certain genre of music inspired by the groups that are most affected.
But in the same way we also want to express the concept more macabre and dramatic life. Each songs, as well as to inspire horror films, tells of trauma, nightmares or various horrors that everyone has experienced in his own life or that he imagined.
(L) Our music includes many elements : slow and fast parts, obscure riffs, thrash-oriented riffs but also some melodies. Many bands influenced us to create this mixture. I mean we listen all kinds of Metal from Classic to Black Metal. Mainly we are big fans of Death and Doom Metal for sure.
06) Btw. how did your journey with Metal music begin?
(E)Each of us has his own life and its commitments.
the musical component is the one that predominates in fact every single minute of my day there is always this sort of obsession with death metal. The only thing that allows me to go on is the death metal and live only for that.
(L): My Metal's journey starts with Iron Maiden's "A Real Dead One" and later it continues with more heavy shit like old Sepultura, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Hellhmammer/Frost, Venom, Bathory,
Nunslaughter, Nuclear Death (USA), and so on. Thrash and Death Metal are my favourite genres but i used to listen a lot of Black Metal too in the past years.
I reached many bands from a radio's trasmission called Morbid Scream : it was awesome! Metal totally fucked up my life!
07) Also huge inspirations for you beside music are horror movies. Can you tell me about your favourite productions and directors? And don't worry there is no limitation with the space for all the answers hehe.
(E)yes of course , the main directors are Lucio Fulci, Mario bava, Dario Argento , Romero , but also the old hammer and amicus production movies are the most influences for us .
(L) Yeah! Horror, Giallo and Thriller cinema ispired us a lot! Expecially during the songwritting. My favourite directors are : Mario Bava, Lucio Fulci, Sergio Martino, Wes Craven, Joe D'amato,
Russ Meyer, Jess Franco.. Mainly i prefer italian cinema which is more full of dark atmosferes but i'm a big fan of Hammer/Amicus/Taigon movies too.
Here is some of my favourite movies :
- Nightmare On Helm Street (fuck remakes!)
- House By The Cemetery
- Satanik
- Blood On Satan's Claw
- Dracula (Bela Lugosi)
- All Colours Of The Dark (Sergio Martino)
- Female Vampire
- Night Of The Living Dead
- Evil Dead
- Nekromantik
- Death Smiles At Murderer
- Satanic Rites Of Dracula
- Deep Red
- Non Si Sevizia Un Paperino (Lucio Fulci)
- Black Sabbath (Mario Bava)
- Black Sunday
- Beyond The Valley Of Dolls (Russ Mayer)
- Psyco
- Sette Scialli Di Seta Gialla
- Last House On The Left (fuck remakes part 2)
- Re-animator
- Paranoia (Umberto Lenzi)
- Satan's Sadists
08) As we speak about the movies, do you think the nowadays cinema is any good? All these nicly done computer effects which are brought in front for the viewers are just a cover for the usually poor script. There are exceptions, but in my opinion this is mostly the fact.
Honestly, the cinema of today do not care. may be almost 10 years since I've been to the cinema. I can not find anything exciting in modern films. When I have a moment of free time I always go to the same movies review, or I like to look for unknown films that have never been broadcast on television.
L : Nowadays cinema sucks! I hate computer effects, 3D glasses and some that bullshits. During his career Mario Bava created special effects by himself, so all nowadays directors should follow
his teachings instead to invest many money for boring computer effects! Nowadays actors and actress sucks too! All hails too : Barbara Steele, Edwige Fenech, Carol Baker, Sylva Koscina,
Linda Haiden, Donald Pleasence, Lina Romay, Katrine Mc Coll, Ewa Haulin, Magda Konopka, Robert Englud, Ivan Rassinov, ecc ..It seems that nowadays actors are loosing carisma... Cinema needs more
inspiration for me.
09) Ok, lets move back to the music. Are you satisified with the co-operation with Razorback Recordings? Is it just the deal for this release or some more?
Razorback recordings gave us a great opportunity because it allowed us to implement and at the same time to distribute our album. for us it was probably a big goal that we never thought to accomplish.n fact, when Billy contacted us we were very excited and happy at the same time in disbelief.
10) Your first demo and the split with Morbid Execution were both released in tape format by Unholy Domain Records. What do you think about this format? Are you a tape or cd collector as myself?
I've always been a huge fan of cassettes 7'ep and lp. For years I buy and I follow the underground scene. With the boys of Unholy Domain Not worth well, are first of all of my dearest friends, and at the same time are professional people who have always believed in the band and have done everything possible to help us at this point. Tape format is truly spectacular and exudes odour and smell at the same time, key components for a underground group like ours.
11) How different were the first recordings from the stuff we can hear on your debut album 'Anthropophagy of Doom'? Was is just the issue of the sound as it on demos or simply you did progress? I mean some of the songs were released on these demo tapes but it is a question how do you see the new tracks in your eyes?
the thing that differentiates the songs recorded on the demo is definitely tuning. with the realization of the split tape with Morbid Execution, we have in fact used the tuning in "C" tone , to get a sound more darker and obscure. Let's say that instead of the sound of the first demo that was more thrash.
12) The debut album is highly inspired by such Unholy acts like Hellhammer, Incantation, Autopsy, Asphyx (old), Celtic Frost (old) or even some of the classics like Candlemass but of course with different vocals hehe. Anyway, where do you think lie differences between these inspirations and the music you do create? Can you point them out for us?
It is actually, our main influences are based on the bands you mentioned. Our music is a mix of all these influences, and try to create our own sound without ever becoming repetitive or at least try not to be.
13) Who is responsible for the amazing artwork of the album? Also inside the cover we can see fragments of 'dance macabre' rite or some foggy cross... To be honest it does underline the aura of the whole album.
The cover album was done by EEro Reiniaho , is a Finnish artist who has already worked for stench of decay.
14) I have a good opinion about the Brutal Death Metal bands coming out from Italian underground, but can you tell me what about such acts like yours? More grim and more infested with the sulphur of Hell?
I do not know honestly, the Italian band which could be close to our sound. A band that we say our issues or that has the same our impact could be the unctoris, a band that has its roots in the old black metal attitude and a distressing and hellish as it should be.
15) Do you preform live? If yes or no can you tell me your opinion about live concerts? Some are against such events while this is just about drinking lots of booze and not really feeling the atmosphere of the live ritual.
Yes, we do not do many live concerts. But surely live experiences are very important. The bad thing is that unfortunately in Milan, where we live, there aren't many places that support this kind of music.
16) Your future plans? What can we expect from Sepulcral in near forthcoming times?
Future projects, we hope to record some new blasphemies and surely soon to continue in this direction.
17) This is it, hope I didn't get you too bored with the question. Last blasphemies are yours! Vomit on the cross!
Thank you very much for your great support !!!Spit on the fucking cross!!
