Caedere

01) Hails! You started back in 1998 when Caedere was created. To be honest can't fit any other name for the band better describing your music. Why Latin language?
Hey Waldemar! Thanx for the compliment. Caedere means “To kill” in Latin. Niels, our guitarist came with this name, long before I joined the band. I guess he came up with this name in his school period, and when he was highly influenced by metal music. For me, this name is quite unique and strong.
02) The time you all gathered and set Caedere 'to kill' with music was your first experience in underground? As I only know you was at that time in Fluisterwoud but joined Caedere later after 2000 year. So who played where and why haha
Yeah, before I joined them, they first had a human drummer, and when he left it was very useful for them to use a drumcomputer and rehearse at Michiel’s (vocals) apartment. As far as I know, Niels and Michiel had a band called Signs of Zodiac, and Herbert (bass) had only Caedere. He recently played bass for Dimensional Psychosis, a great extreme and sophisticated black metalband from here.  Thomas joined us later on. He had some projects. I came from, as you mentioned, from Fluisterwoud. Before this band I had several projects. My first experience with metal is from the early 90’s with bands like Napalm Death, Obituary etc.
03) Your first release was an EP "Gore to banish fear" and it has been out after four years of band's existence. Tell me why there was no previous official demos but only Ep and after 4 years!
Well, when I joined, we wanted to present ourselves in a professional way by releasing a good looking  EP, no tape or CD-R bullshit. Those 4 years, well I guess Caedere were searching for a style which they could present to the audience and listeners. Why release a crappy demo with unfinished and crappy songs? First control your instruments and music, later on, when your satisfied with it, unleash it.
04) Four tracks Ep was fully included on first full-lenght album "Mass Emission" among new compositions. Must say that even the album is six years old it does still sounds so fucking fresh not mentioning brilliant brutality balanced between fast parts and rhythmical parts and few melodies... What do you think about "Mass Emission" today?
Thanx! Well, I think we did a good job with “Mass Emission” back in the days. The compositions were tight, the songs compact and brutal. The production is a bit over-the-top, but it fits the music. We had a goal to play brutal, but dynamic and with a certain groove. Blastbeats are important, but must be effective. I think the songs on “Mass Emission” has lots of variety, but repeatable riffs and structures. To be more clear: an album to be proud of and like you mentioned, still fresh to put in your player once in while! We had one guitarist at that time, so there was spare room to be more melodic like we are today.
05) Album was released by Goregiastic Records from USA? At the time in 2003 there was no european serious offers for you guys?
There were not as many labels as there are today, and Goregiastic heard our EP, and they were the first label who offered us a decent deal. So, whe took this change immediately. After some negotiations, we felt it was a good deal to sign with them.
06) How was the promotion done by Goregiastic Records? Was it ok, many gigs or just the deal was to released it and spread it around the world on distros?
I can be short concerning your question: just a deal because of the great distribution they had.
07) As speaking about the promotion... saw you gig at Obscene Extreme Fest! That was some serious shit dude! Around these grind bands you showed fucking fist of brutal death metal.
You were there? Great man. It was an awesome experience to see many crazy maniacs banging to our music, certainly because of the heavy rain when we played! It was a very powerfull performance early that day. Good memories to play with all these crazy grind bands.
08) Six years passed since "Mass Emmision" and finally you are releasing your second album "Clones of Industry". Why again so many years? Are you fucking doomed or cursed or fuck knows what else hehe?
Cursed by the winterdemons! No seriously. Caedere is a band who want to deliver quality, not quantity! As a collective, we must stand 100% behind our songs. We have some lazy aspects too and changes in our personal lives are also a reason why we aren’t the most productive band. But after all these years, releasing “Clones of Industry” is a satisfying moment. We are very satisfied with the new album, and the songs are way better and powerfull than on “Mass Emission”.
09) What can we expect from the new album? Judging from new tracks on myspace it is still brutal with old school swedish melodic stuff... But don't know if it is just a fault of myspace but the sound of the new songs is not too downtuned, not so brutal as debut album. Am I correct?
The new song on Myspace isn’t that representative of what you will hear on the album when you grab your hands on it. The production will be not as clear as it was on “Mass Emission”, because things have changed concerning the production. We did the drums with a producer, the guitars, bass and vocals ourselves. The mix was done by the same guy who did our first album (Pascal @ Ground Zero studio’s) and Robbe from Disavowed did the finishing touch. The production is more dark and obscure, just like the music I think. The music is more complex nowadays.
10) Are you planning to organise any tour or at least some gigs for the releasing the new album?
Yeah, we will organize some gigs here in Holland. Maybe Spain next year, but nothing really at a correct shape at this moment.
11) Well, don't know if this is a proper place to ask for that but it seems that you know well the guys from Brutus and what I wanted to ask is about the suicide of their drumer in 2006. Do you know what really happen and why he did it?
Well, we were very sad after we heard the news concerning Ploegbaas of Brutus. A funny guy who slaughtered the drums like a maniac. We know some details about his suicide, but I’m not the right person who’s gonna answer your question about this matter. Sorry mate.
12) Seems that you have changed the lyrics themes from gore to something else I guess. Is the human body mutilation and bitches abuse not enough nowadays?
Nope, subjects of raping dead bodies and stuff like that has not our priority nowadays haha. Those subjects are for youngsters who haven’t seen the reality of today’s hard society ;-) Our lyrics are a bit more mature maybe. Dark and negative. Just like the music.
13) Many of young bands or even existing are now more keen on going into more slam version of Death Metal. What do you think of that genre? Well names as Devourment or Cephalotripsy are the best examples of these scene.
I know Devourment’s music. It’s not my cup of tea anymore. Some years ago I really liked Krisiun, Disgorge (US) and so on because it was never heard before.  I grew up with death metal when it was not that overproduced and a bit more raw. Grave, Entombed, Obituary, Pestilence etc. Well, I think Origin is great, and of course Pyaemia and Disavowed from here. All in all, people who play in bands must create their own style of music, which fits best to them. Fast, heavy, down-tempo, whatever!
14) Any new bands around in your local area that we should check out?
New bands? Hmm, hard question for me. I’m not following it that close anymore. Perhaps I must recommend Izegrim (thrash/death), Devious (great band!) and Victimizer. If you want old-school death metal, check out Bloodsin.
15) Ok, thx for your time and most sickest regards for answering the questions.
Thanx for this one! Hopefully the listeners dig our new album! We are very content with this new opus! Good luck with your zine! Cheers!
interview with Sjoerd (who is not even in band anymore done in 2009 by Waldemar / it supposed to be published on the other webzine which went to grave so I decided after years to use it here.
