Gorezone

01)  Hi, Markus. How are things in Gorezone? All going fine? How is Gorezone spending time after releasing the "Brutalities of Modern Domination"?
Torsten: We are writing new stuff and try to push the music on a higher level of brutality. Unfortunately we had to take a pause last year, due some health problems … but now everything is fine again and we are highly motivated.
Markus: We had a small break, because of an accident of our drummer, now we’re writing new stuff and playing live again. The last Show in Hamburg was a blast.

02) Why the band decided to change the name from Wolfshade to Gorezone? To be honest I haven't heard any of the stuff you released under the previous name. How music did differ from what can we hear now?
Markus: We decided to change the name in 2001 during the recording of the Erase the Scum – Album. We had a song called Gorezone and your Soundmixer had this idea to change the name of the Band. In the mid-nineties Wolfshade first played some rough Black/Death Metal style. A few demotapes are existing.I have joined the band and we tried to make old school Death and groovy shit. Our guitar- and bassplayer left the band and on after two demos (Carry the twin-1996, …eat the world alive-1998)We wrote the Erase The Scum Album with Grind Elements and a new kind of Gorezone-feeling. The demos are sold out. The first demo of Wolfshade is not in my holding. On this record the songtitles are pretty shitty like: “final blackness” or “Drakula” hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!

03) So far you have on your account three albums. Do you think that for 12 years of existence that's enough hehe? How do you work on tracks, when the music progress strats and also when do you know that the work is completed (especially with such technical stuff like on last album)?
Torsten: The main reason for the little number of releases is caused by a lot of line-up changes during the last years. Nevertheless the long territorial distance between the members is another reason. Now we are working with guitar pro and do a new form of songwriting for us. It works, harhar
Asgard: it varies from time to time! i think its`best to be open minded in the procedure how songs are created!every song needs different approaches in creating it!often its really efficient for us to just  jam at rehearsals!it expresses the emotion and motivation of our influences at that time the best way!just beatin the shit out of our instruments! we always get the coolest stuff out of jamsessions and are totally stoked after it.when you don`t think too much at writing songs while getting the structure the song gets a better flow! after we have cool parts in a row we start working focused on structure and alternations, speed changes etc.the last thing to do is getting all the details together like breaks, fills etc. thats definately the work everybody does at home while practicing for themselves.we program every fucking note with guitar pro for clearance and transparence.what is programmed will be played with no tolerance!so everybody knows exactly what the other is doing and we can easily change parts without talking too much.but it doesn`t has to be always like that! some songs are directly started at home, because someone has got an idea of a cool song and then we practice for ourselves on it to the next rehearsal gettin all together! then we always change some elements drastically until it has this certain gorezone power feel! there are some spontaneous eruptions which can be just fixed at a rehearsal! if you just compose on the computer its mostly gettin too overloaded, statical and you starve the musical flow! we try to keep an eye on that!

04) Each one of you plays in other bands so I hope that Gorezone is the priorety. Anyway are you so creative that Gorezone is not enough?
Torsten: Gorezone is my priority like it was all the time. My second band “Ebola Beach Party” is laid to rest since one week. We had a last great show and our energy is concentrating on Gorezone now.
Asgard: i will never have a band which covers all my needs!some guys try to put all in one band and it just sucks! i hate bands who sound like anathema mixed with limp shitkid and devourment, hahahaha! at gorezone we just kick ass and try to do it as energetic and powerful as we can! of course you always need alternations and some technical stuff to ease it up!if you are just brutal, its the brodequin effect. thats also cool and impressive, but we need a bit more variety, because we like to play long shows! nobodies attention is caught by doing 20 songs with 1 blastbeat over 1 hour at 320 bpm!

05) What are the lyrics about, the whole concept of death and gore? Is that what you see more serious or is it just to fill up the jug called 'brutal music'?
Torsten: The lyrics are an important part in Gorezone. We always try to give a massage and each song has its key information. “Brutalities of Modern Domination” is an concept album which offers a framework in which all the songs, lyrics and the layout match. It’s mainly about politics and social criticism: it’s about how power is being used to suppress people, how people are suffering from globalization and finally the mechanisms behind that. The songs on this album are arranged and conceived like a temperature chart of mankind in the 21th century.

06) Well you are on scene since 1995 so which times were better you think? The domination of internet and the promotion of bands is huge not mentioning the endless number of labels, distros and webzines. Do you think is it ok that the metal music became so overcrowded?
Asgard: both sides have their pros and cons! i like the simplicity of the net and that you can get in contact with everyone concerning the scene easily! but it sucks that everyone is just downloading his music! as a band you just have a huge amount of costs and every concert organizer cries to his mum when you ask for an adequate fee! but you need to put an album out if you wanna get recognized. most bands do that by themselves in the garage or at their homes- caused by this 90% of all new brutal death metal music is just crap! i would love to get more quality from the scene, but not everyone is stupid like us to put out such expensive records! guys, you have to go to concerts, buy t-shirts and cd`s to support the underground!!!!otherwise you`ll just get bands like behemoth and enter shikari or totally crap recorded in your grandmas kitchen by some stoned hippies who just listen to torso fuck watching fecal porn and takashi miike movies;)

Markus: the internet gives the possibility to promote millios of bands. It’s an stimulus satiation. Who needs 20000 different bands? O.K. you can spread your music in 10 seconds in every edge of the planet, but other bands do the same and in the next second your band is forgotten. I remember the tapetrading-times…hahaha!Well, now it’s easier to promote your album, but it’s easier too, to steal your album in the internet. the thousands of illegal trade-platforms are a kind of promotion too, but if you had a label or a band and you considering to make albums you have to decide, if you want to invest money in an original cd or just in self made promos for downloads.

07) "Brutalities of Modern Domination" is very technical stuff. Plenty of influences, not common thing to be played in Death Metal with tempo changes, blasting, break-downs, hardcore and grindcore elements. How would you describe or recommand it to listeners?
Torsten: We tried to create an varied album, where all our influences fit in. The music is mainly American. The patternsmore  “old-school” combined with some guttural stuff.
Asgard: we are just a bunch of really friendly nice guys, who like to be stupid and go crazy live on stage! we have our normal lives and have to survive in this egocentric commercial driven world.if you are a person with an average intellect watching the human species you`ll have to get really fucking angry!that`s why we sound like a combine harvester running throug a marketplace!otherwise we would have been criminal and thats why we sound like that!we just try to do a good job and keep the music away from getting monotonous and uninteresting!so you need a variety of different elements, thats it! Gorezone booom!!!

08) Btw. what do you think of last Defeated Sanity album? Pretty sick, huh?
Torsten: I cannot listen to the whole album, because I am getting bored while doing it. The single tracks are ok…
Asgard: i really like the band because it never gets boring and its really well played!its also hard to find a band of 4 members where everyone is a talented musician!but on the other hand they really have big problems to create a good flow and often exaggerate!it`s more a showdown of brutal skills, like a patchwork with really nice riffs and powerful basslines and a drummer with an outstanding feel!if you like to listen an album with high concentration and don`t like prog metal its a nice alternative to other brutal bands.

09) I think that the most important thing in Gorezone is that you know your ground. You are trying to be stars like mainstream 'bands' (Deicide,Kataklysm or Behemoth) and simply do the music you all wanna play not carrying what other may say or that your label will try to change anything to make more cash of it. So do you think that being authentic is enough or should you rather go for commercialism?
Torsten: Playing this kind of music is fun. That`s what it is all about. We do not care about commerce.
Markus: “So you wanna be a rock superstar? And live large, a big house, 5 cars, you're in charge.Comin' up in the world don't trust no body. Gotta look over your shoulder constantly.Hahahha…yeah! Sell your soul like Lady Gaga! No, we write the music we like and we play this music live.No paintings, no curious clothing and this kind of shit. For myself I never understand this and I feelashamed if I see those bands or people. I make this music, because it’s one of the important things in my live and nobody have to tell me, that Gorezone needs any melodic-parts or Thrash-Elements or some accessoires.  Gorezone is brutal Death Grind in Jeans and sneakers…haha!
Asgard: it all starts with authenticity, then there is pride, then comes money! if you get a death metal band on such a professional level which pays your bills you have to be a really talented businessman or a corrupt egocentric asshole!i mostly met the last ones!
10) How often do you play live and what are the requirements to get you on the stage?
Torsten: We try to get on stage as often as possible. It is all a matter of time. Perhaps some touring is possible during the next year. Single gigs are welcome at all time. Just get in contact, when you set up any shows.
Markus: We try to play live as often as possible. We had normal jobs, some of us has brats and wifes. So Gorezone can not play every day and me mentioned that Gorezone had a small break, but in now we’re booked for some shows and you are free to book us, of you’re interested. We want to blast the pit away. That is our requirement. We try to implement the Brutal music we play on the stage, with high tempo stage performing and no breather for us and the audience. 45 minutes of fast and sick demolition!

11) I know that Gorezone is mainly a about the massacre haha but I wanted to ask you about your approach towards the church institution and the religion as well? What do you think about the chritianity its followers?
Torsten: I do not care about religion and decided to leave the church community a few months ago. Everyone should believe what she / he needs and with no pressure on others to do the same. The fact of exploiting religion for some political interests is a shame.
Markus: I was never interested in religions. It was never an opinion to think about gods or paradises or churches or something. My parents never talked about it and I don’t have to participate on religion educations in school. I have no opinions about it. Wars, circulations of AIDS and intolerance based on religious insanity. I don’t want to take part in it.

13) Anyway I wanted at the end say thank you for amazing album (you can check the review in polish language on my site) and ask you about the future plans?
Markus: Thank you man! Writing new stuff and enter the stage so often as possible. We think about a mini cd or a short clip or something to promote the new Gorezone-Stuff. ( so fast as we can in the internet ?)

14) Beer or tits? What is your choice?
Torsten: Tits and beer! Harhar
Markus: Beer on Tits!
