Formless Terror

01) Hell-o to all member of Formless Terror and you Slobodan. Tell me in the begining some facts from the band's history. How did it all started and what actually pushed you for form a Brutal Death Metal band?
It was in 2006,we were heavily influenced by the US brutal death metal scene, so we decided to create our own material. At that time the whole line up, except the drummer was in another band called Embryotomy playing old school death metal, but we wanted to try something more extreme so we started Formless Terror. A lot of gigs and festival performances so far, sharing the stage with names like Malevolent Creation, Krisiun, Sodom, Vital Remains and others. Three official releases, promo cd consisted of three songs, split cd called “Supreme Brutal Legion vol.3” and a full length “Sovereign Chaos Authority” released through Sevared Records.

02) Your origin is from Macedonia which I must say is not too much popular or known region as for metal Europe or even worldwide. Maybe we all do miss some facts from that scene so tell me how it is there? Is Macedonian scene well working and is just unknown outside its country?
A lot of cool bands over here, you can find some truly hardworking individuals, but the fact that this region is unknown worldwide, it’s because a lot of the bands are still working only in Macedonia. There are exceptions of course, but the majority are only focused locally, very little or not even trying at all to promote themselves outside the borders, so I guess the result is the situation that we are in now. But things are getting better these days.

03) If we are talking about metal scene in your country tell me how does it look like there to lead everyday life? What do you do beside playing in Formless Terror?
Busting our asses at work trying to survive the month, hanging out with friends getting wasted, going on shows, sometimes organizing shows for other bands, supporting the scene, standard stuff bro.

04) Tell me how does it look like with religion in your country. Did you have any problems with presenting your lyrics on stage or your album to be placed somewhere in the distro in your country? Just asking because I couldn't find any informations about it. Also why Greece is so against with the name of Macedonia?
Religion was not that big of a deal 20+ years ago, not only in our country but whole eastern Europe I think. With the fall of communism and proclaiming our independence in 1991, religion got big in people’s everyday life, Christians, Muslims, you name it and a lot of problems emerged from it, sometimes even resulting in war conflicts. About performing our lyrics on stage, we never had problems with that, cause religious groups are often corrupted assholes who are mostly interested in other activities, political and money related of course, also metal bands get zero media attention, so I don’t think we’re something that they would bother with, cause I don’t think they even know we exist. And about the name dispute with Greece, man I don’t even know where to start, it’s the biggest political stupidity that’s been going on like 20 years so far and still nothing is resolved. I don’t think it’s worth to even talk about in a metal interview.

05) Let me ask about the lyrics first. Does the concept of what we can see of the front cover and Satanism is used by you as a symbol of anti-christian beliefs, anty-religion in general or any of you follow Left Hand Path? What is your opinion about religion? Slavery for the masses?
There’s no certain message in the lyrics. The main inspiration is the universal laws of predator and pray, the will of the strong, transcended beyond the realms of earth and space. All of this presented through malevolent, mysterious and blasphemous anthems. And about religion, I can only say pure hypocrisy, global blindness of the masses, killing every free thought and feelings.

06) Then on the top of this how do you see the whole outcome of christian church? Well, there is no doubt that they forced with violence and oppression to make people belief in this pathetic zombie symbol on the cross. Isn't it the most ironic story of human history? That the religion which is offering mercy from god, love and paradise after death is guilty the most number of deaths? Not mentioning the priests and the pedophilia nowadays!!!
Just as I said, pure hypocrisy, the biggest money making, child molesting machine in the world…

07) 'Sovereign Chaos Authority' was released by Sevared Records which is hunting down very promissing brutal bands from all over the world. Tell me how did it happen that they offered you the deal? Was it just only for one album or should we expect more from this co-operation?
We were in contact with them since the split cd, but it took a long time for us to finish the material for the debut, so at the end we weren’t sure enough that they are gonna remember us, so we contacted other labels as well as Sevared, but on our surprise it turned out that they were still into our stuff so the final decision about signing the deal was easy to make. Sevared Records is well known in the death metal scene world wide, so it’s really great for us to be in the family and we’re more than happy with the results. Don’t know if we’ll stay with the same label for the second album, but if Sevared are willing to release it, we would gladly accept the offer.

08) What about live gigs and promotion of the debut album? Satisified with the work they did for you or maybe this part is in your hands?
Concerts, tours, live performances is left to us, cause it’s hard for a label that’s on another continent to be a part of this.

09) The album is for me personally mixture of everything that is most important in Brutal Death Metal: it is extreme, blasting with slower parts, heavy as fuck, plenty of good technical aspects but also in some way reminds some old school catchy stuff especially in faster tremollo played riffs. Would you agree with my opinion? How long did it take to get the songs ready and how did you work on them?
Definitely, you nailed it pretty good. The material on our debut is mostly done by me, usually I come up with the main riffs and then together we create the final result. When it comes to creating it’s all about what I’m influenced at the moment. When we first started we were all into technical bands like Disgorge, Decrepith Birth and you can see that on the first recordings, but later on we wanted to put some groovy riffs also and you can spot that change on some of the songs like Immaculate Dominance Of Iniquity or Feeding The Necrovoid.

10) Also what would you point out as the most important parts of the album? Is it for you brutal guitar focused album or do you think that the balance between all the instruments plus vocals were perfectly formed as they should be?
Every aspect of the songs is important to us, we always make sure everything to be in balance, the guitar riffs need cool drumming and vocal patterns. When we started composing our own material we wanted every member to play his part equally, cause we don’t want to put out some mediocre bullshit, but something interesting and well played.

11) Do you think that Death Metal still has a lot to offer to the listeners or that maybe we are slowly approaching the point as it was in '90s when after the huge boom this genre went deep to underground.
I think it still has a lot to offer, extreme music is boundless. When Reign in Blood came out people said that it can’t go further than that, then we got “Altars of Madness” people said the same thing. Today we have bands like Krisiun, Nile, Origin, Disavowed and many others who made a step further in death metal, so I don’t think the genre is washed out. New stuff is still gonna come out.

12) What do you think about bands like Viraemia or Entrails Eradicated where I think the compositions are just to show off how good the guys are playing with their instruments? Thousands of not needed riffs, not even a single main riff as a base around which the song is built, plastic and way too much clear sound makes this music kind of a funny.
There was a period when I was a lot into bands like this, but it got boring with time. I’m an old school death metal fan and it can be heard on our material beside all the technical riffs.

13) Lets skip even more funny Deathcore bullshit with jumping bouys in their caps, tell me how do you see Black Metal scene? I think what we can observe there with plenty hordes which are really into what they do forming some subgenres it's a sheer amazing exprerience.
Never really followed the Black Metal scene, but our drummer and vocalist are really into it. Yeah, a lot of extreme material comes out from those bands, I know it was big in the mid 90ties, kinda slowed down these years.

14) Tell me about the inspirations for you personally and for Formless Terror, not only musicwise.
The biggest inspiration is definitely the music I listen to throughout the day, it doesn’t necessarily need to be death metal, I listen to a lot of different genres these days, so I can find inspiration in almost everything. I’m also always interested with lyrics, if I dig the music of a band, immediately I’m searching for the lyrics to find out what they wanna say. It was the same when we started Formless Terror, we wanted the lyrics to be something creative, to be an important part of our music.

15) When can we expect another blasphemy of yours? Also tell me some plans for the future. What do you plan to do next?
Well the material for the second album is almost finished, so I hope it will come out by the end of the year, also planning a tour for support of our debut, so we’ll see how that goes.

16) That would be everything for now. Thank you for your time and last words are yours!
First of all big hail to you for the opportunity to spread our word and to everyone that supports us. Check us out on our facebook page for updates and if anyone’s interested in our debut album, you can order it through the band via formlessterror@yahoo.com or the Sevared Records online catalog. Keep supporting death metal!!!!!
