01) Hi Claudio, cool that you accepted the interview possibility. How are things in the Sickening at the moment?
Hi Waldemar, at the moment we are writing new songs for our next album. For this reason now we have short time to play on stage.
02) Been listening to “Ignorance supremacy” for a while now and what I can tell in the begining that it is a fucking great mixture of slam and brutal death metal. How do people react on that album and what is your opinion about it so far?
I think “Ignorance supremacy” is a great album; maybe a little bit slow and immature, but I am satisfied because it was allowed us to play and to make known out of Italy. The reaction of people and the reviews have been positive.03) As I said you are mixing slam with brutal death and we can say that almighty Devourment is present here. Which element you think Sickening has more: slam or brutal death? Please mention also about other influences and what you think about Devourment? Are you waiting impatiently for their third album coming out in May?
Yes, we have many slam parts in our riffs, and obviously we are many influenced from bands like Devourment, they are great and their first two albums are amazing; but we consider us a death metal band, and our principal inspiration are the classic US acts like Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Immolation and many others.04) Your debut album was released by Nice To Eat You Records. Are you satisfied with the work they did for you so far? The next album will be released by them as well?
Yes we are very satisfied by the work of Vladimir ( the owner of ntey ), the album is well distributed. We don’t have talk yet about our next album, it’s too early to think about it. We’ll see…05) To be honest with you Claudio, artwork sucks a little bit. Dolls with ribs on x-ray? And how does it come with the title “Ignorance supremacy”?
Well, we didn’t want a classical death metal artwork with meaningless paint. The artwork of the album represents metaphorically the titles of our songs, like “ignorance”, “hypocrisy” and “identity”.
06) Can you tell us some more about the lyrics you’re using in your songs? Unfortunatelly there is nothing in the booklet so if you can tell us that secret…
It’s simple, we don’t have lyrics. We think that lyrics are not important in death metal, we don’t have to give any message, we want only break ass during our concerts.07) In 2005 you released your first demo which was later used for a split with Zora. Can you tell me more about this demo? If you could compare it with songs that you recorded for “Ignorance Supremacy” what would you tell?
They are very old song, to be honest we’dont like them anymore, except for “Quartered brains” that we have rearranged for our first album.08) Then in 2007 you recorded three track “2007 Promo” and these are three first songs from your debut album. Did you send a lot of copies around? I assume that this promo gave you a pass to Nice To Eat You Records, but can you tell me what other labels were trying to sign you? And what was the most important thing for you in signing the papers?
We have sent some copies of “Promo 2007″ to around forty labels; Ntey Records has offered us to produce and distribute “Ignorance supremacy”, in collaboration with Sevared Records for the USA. Other labels offered us only the printing, so we have signed with Vladimir. We thanks him a lot for the great work.
09) In USA you are distribiuted officialy by Sevared Records. Any feedback from that land? When are you going across the sea to conquer america?
Honestly I didn’t to hope a great feedback from the USA, they are so far from us… Whereas we receive often congratulations and positive feedbacks from there. For us that is the best satisfaction. And to have some gigs in the USA would be a dream for us!
10) What is your opinion about live gigs? Isn’t it for Death Metal band the best way of promoting itself and showing the potential and skills… And have a lot of fucking fun as well…
Yes, I agree with you. It is the best way for promoting our music, in fact we rehearse too much to have a solid and compact sound on stage. I don’t understand because a lot of bands record in studio songs that they not able to perform live… Nowadays it’s too easy to be good in studio.11) When can we expect next album bro?
At the moment we have five new songs; they are faster, more elaborate and mature than the tracks of “Ignorance supremacy”. We hope to record our next full-length by the end of 2009.12) Now I have to ask you the favourite of mine: what are your five best albums ever and why?
It’s very very hard for me to choose only five albums, because I listen equally death, brutal, grind and black metal.About death metal, in no particular order:
Immolation “Dawn of possession”
Morbid angel “Blessed are the sick”
Dying fetus “Purification through violence”
Suffocation “Effigy of the forgotten”
Obituary “Slowly we rot”
13) How is life in Italy anyway? Is it getting any harder after the financial situation and all this shitty bank frauding stuff in usa? Here in Scotland the prices are going high but it is still ok…
The situation in Italy is dramatic: there isn’t work e the prices are very high. Our president, Berlusconi, is a thief, friend of Mafia and freemason; he wants only increase their profits at the expense of people. But Italian are stupid, they just want a cellular phone; and they don’t give a damn if fascism are turning back.14) Can you recommand any sick shit from your region apart from Funeral Rape and Septycal Gorge, hehe?
In Italy there are a lot of great bands: Hour of penance, Septycal gorge, Corpsefucking art, Putridity, Nefas, Natron, Stench of dismemberment, Undertakers and many others.15) Claudio thx you very much for spending some time with answering these questions… Now you can say to Jenna Jameson what would you do to her if you got opportunity haha
